My mom and Erica won first place at this years bocce tournament! It was pretty exciting. Sergio and my dad won 5th place in the guys tournament, which is super impressive. I was in charge of the footage. I really like saying footage.
I'm not ready for school.

Iceland is going well... blablabla... pictures! Also, I just got back from fishing and I caught three fish! One was even almost big enough to keep! I think I caught cod and haddock. It was pretty fun, especially since I didn´t have to kill them. But those pictures aren´t uploaded yet, and these are.
Þingvellir. This is some historic place where the first vikings landed or something.

Also, today I was told that Joe Strummer would be proud of me for writing my paper on punk and environmentalism... by someone who knew Joe Strummer. :O

Spring Break is just about over, which is just about the lamest thing I've ever heard. Philadelphia was great fun. Simona is still pretty much the cutest. See her blog for proof: simonabea.blogspot.com
As of tomorrow, Dan and I will have been dating for 5 years. How bout them apples. OMGLOVE!

I just had the most hilarious dream.
I was playing tag in the mall with Luca and a friend of his. I was hiding and Justin Timberlake came up behind me and tagged me and said seductively, "I guess that means you're it," and kissed me. The mall security guy came to yell at us because we were playing tag but then saw that JT was with us and was really nice to us. Then the whole mall was playing tag. JT and I decided to get the hell outta there.
We went to a bar across the street where my parents met JT. They were relatively unimpressed until I told him that he was a famous pop star. They left and we go inside the bar: I order a fancy root beer and he orders 6 slices of pineapple, microwaved. This is a bar for famous people, and as JT is introducing me to his celebrity friends, I begin to wish that I read People magazine more because I don't recognize any of them. After JT generously poses for a picture with a fan, we leave and go to a family dinner at my house, where he meets my extended family and charms them all (even the ones that don't speak English). I know that it's because my parents told them that he is a famous pop star.
We somehow end up in Pyle, where I get in a fight with a hipster I don't like because she's jealous of my relationship with JT. I pick her up WWF style and throw her against the wall. Jane Bennett (the biology lab instructor) makes me right down my name and address because she's going to tell my parents what I had done.
I look around… and JT is GONE! I run around Asia House looking for him, but Asia House has turned into a mall/airport that I'm unfamiliar with. I can't find him, and airport janitors kick me out when it closes.
In conclusion, stupid hipsters.
PS: There was lots of making out with Justin Timberlake in my dream, but I don't remember where that fit in.

In case anyone is interested in what I'm working on, it's a paper about cap-and-trade with a presentation to go along with it. It will be used in Florida (and possibly other places), trying to convince them to implement a statewide cap on greenhouse gas emissions. Oddly enough, a bunch of new bills are being presented in Congress to implement such a program nationwide. Check it.
It's weird that now senators are racing to get their global warming bills passed, where before they didn't stand a chance.

I'm loving my time in DC so far. My internship is pretty interesting, and I've been keeping super busy. Living with Marya and Toby (Marya's dad) is super fun. Kinda crazy that it's half over. Some highlights so far:
-Dinner with the US ambassadors to Greece and Albania (randomly friends of Toby from Oberlin) -A really funny play called "Noises Off" -Philadelphia for a weekend: Mummers Parade, art museum, missing the chinatown bus -heartbreaking OSU championship game -Capitals hockey game. Turns out I'm a fan of violent sports! -Hanging out with the family that is actually here to see Loretta, but I'm pretending is here to see me. -Parents and Ev and Dan were here this weekend. It was super fun, but I'm totally toured-out.
It's also generally exciting that I'm living in a city for the first time and am relatively comfortable with the Metro.
Upcoming excitedness: -tomorrow I turn in my first draft of my project (on cap-and-trade for CO2) -The Queers this Sunday and/or Camera Obscura Monday. I'm kind of desperate for a concert. -Hopefully visiting NYC at some point to see Tricia and Richie.

1. Yesterday I wanted to walk to Old B, but noticed that it was cold outside. Unwilling to change out of my sweatpants (I mean, seriously, it's finals week), I put a layer of pajama pants underneath my sweats! Best idea EVER. Twice the warmth and the comfort! I highly recommend it.
2. I'm just about half way done with finals. For my Internet class, I made a website for Oberlin STAND (Students Taking Action Now- Darfur). Check it out! If I was done earlier I could have asked for feedback, but now if you point out a typo or a broken link I might just start crying since I have already turned it in. You should point those things out anyway, since this will eventually be their actual website, and I guess they deserve working links... stopping genocide and all. So yeah... almost done! Kinda!
3. I bought my plane ticket to DC. For those of you that I haven't talked to in forever, I'll be in DC for winter term at an internship with Environmental Defense. I'm super excited (and a little nervous).

I can't believe that Ohio has a democratic senator AND governor. I'm totally in shock. But at the same time, I feel like I've lost a scapegoat. Now if things go wrong, or keep going wrong (with environmental stuff, education, Sudan...) I'll have to blame the people I voted for. We'll seeeeee. I kind of hate politics.
I'm becoming a better college student. I was up until 2AM(!!) last night for no good reason. It only took me three years.
Is it Thanksgiving yet?

A New Comic! Special fall break edition, written by Tricia!
Philadelphia was great fun and now I'm back in good old Willo-B doing a bunch of nothin.
They posted internships for Winter Term yesterday... I'm very excited about the ones at Environmental Defense in DC. We'll see how that goes.
Bouncing Souls and World/Inferno tonight! I'm so excited; I could definitely use a good show. I'm actually more excited to see World/Inferno because I haven't seen them before. Seeing the Bouncing Souls is more like hanging out with an old friend at this point, while World/Inferno is the new awesome friend that you try to act cool around.
I forgot the tickets in Oberlin, so I have to drive back out there this morning. Urgh.
Woo break!

Sometimes I see hilarious t-shirts online, but don't buy them because I [usually] don't like bringing attention to myself. Instead I post what the t-shirt says in my livejournal:
Haikus are easy But sometimes they don't make sense Refrigerator
Tonight might be the closest I will have ever gotten to an all nighter. We'll see. I have one more question for my population bio take-home test and two more questions for my Energy and Society problem set. Don't let the numbers fool you, each problem has been taking me about a billion years.
Philly tomorrow! Yayayay!

Before the benefit concert I had plenty of excuses for going on MySpace. I wanted to check what people were saying about the concert, see if people were attending, see what the bands were saying about it, if they were advertising, etc.
Now the benefit concert is over and I'm still online all the time.
...I'm officially a MySpace whore. :\

New comic!
It's that time of summer again where I feel like it's flown by so quickly and I haven't done anything. Which isn't really true, though I haven't done too much. Either way, I've been making a last ditch effort to pack in any activity that I can before I go back to Oberlin. This weekend has included: -Warped Tour -Denny's -Ordering this book in hopes of a new hobby that Jen and I could obsess over for a few days. -Shooting stars with Dan -Venturing to the skate park with Jen at 11AM on a Sunday morning in hopes that we would find it empty. We're not very good and other skaters are more than a little intimidating. It was empty for the most part and we left when experienced people showed up. -Lina's house, involving capture the flag and straightening my hair and having make-up applied by 6-year-old Carli.

Damn you, Epitaph website and having TWO pages of tour dates. Seriously, who does that. ANYWAY, Rancid is coming to Cleveland with The Explosion! September 6th at the Agora. Also the 7th in Columbus, but it's a Thrusday. Bad news = That's a Wednesday and a Thursday of the first week of school. Which means less homework, but Dan probably won't be able to go either.
Camping was fun and exciting. Ted Leo in Columbus was amazizizing. He rocked my face clean off.
The market was slow today. We blamed it on Bush being in town, because that's what we do. He came for a Blackwell dinner thing. *vomits*
I'm itching to make another comic, it's been so long!

Please come! Don't forget! Bring guests! Etc! Bring lots of money to donate and help build a school in Sierra Leone!

Last night it started pouring at the farmers market with about a 1/2 hour to go. As I was getting soaked to the bone and helping everyone pack up, all I was hearing were the lyrics "Come on, come out of the rain..." because I had just listened to the New Pornographers in the car on the way over. It was very calming in a frantic moment.

The following overheard conversation between God and St. Francis has been circulating on the Web. God:Francis, you know all about gardens and nature; what in the world isgoing on down there in the U.S.? What happened to the dandelions, violets, thistles and the stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfectno-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought, and multiply with abandon. The nectar from thelong-lasting blossoms attracts butterflies, honeybees, and flocks ofsongbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of color by now. All I seeare patches of green. St. Francis: It's the tribes that settledthere, Lord. They are called the Suburbanites. They started callingyour flowers "weeds" and went to great lengths to kill them and replacethem with grass. God: Grass? But it is so boring, it's notcolorful. It doesn't attract butterflies, bees or birds, only grubs andsod worms. It's temperamental with temperatures. Do these Suburbanitesreally want grass growing there? St. Francis: Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it has grown a little, they cut it....sometimes two times a week. God: They cut it? Do they bale it like hay? St. Francis: Not exactly, Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in bags. God: They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it? St. Francis: No sir, just the opposite. They pay to throw it away. God:Now let me get this straight...they fertilize it to make it grow andwhen it does grow, they cut it off and pay to throw it away? St. Francis: Yes, sir. God:These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we cut back onthe rain and turn up the heat. That surely slows the growth and savesthem a lot of work. St. Francis: You aren't going to believethis Lord, but when the grass stops growing so fast, they drag outhoses and pay more money to water it so they can continue to mow it andpay to get rid of it. God: What nonsense! At least they keptsome of the trees. That was a sheer stroke of genius, if I do say somyself. The trees grow leaves in the spring to provide beauty and shadein the summer. In the autumn they fall to the ground and form a naturalblanket to keep the moisture in the soil and protect the trees andbushes. Plus, as they rot, the leaves become compost to enhance thesoil. It's a natural circle of life. St. Francis: You'd bettersit down, Lord. As soon as the leaves fall, the Suburbanites rake theminto great piles and pay to have them hauled away. God: No way! What do they do to protect the shrubs and tree roots in the winter to keep the soil moist and loose? StFrancis: After throwing the leaves away, they go out and buy somethingcalled mulch. They haul it home and spread it around in place of theleaves. God: And where do they get this mulch? St. Francis: They cut down the trees and grind them up to make mulch. God:Enough! I don't want to think about this anymore. Saint Catherine, you're in charge of the arts. What movie have you scheduled for ustonight? St. Catherine: "Dumb and Dumber," Lord. It's a really stupid movie about.... God: Never mind--I think I just heard the whole story from Saint Francis!

I'm reading Mountains Beyond Mountains right now. It's pretty thought-provoking and all that, but I found a description of Paul Farmer that sounds a lot like me:
"Ophelia thought that Paul had a fairly complex personality, built of oppositions-- a need for frenzied activity that verged, she thought, on desperation, and a towering self-confidence oddly combined with a hunger for affirmation. He was always asking, "How am I doin'?" and if she didn't praise him, he'd be hurt. She thought she understood; he took on more than he could fix, so of course he wanted reassurance. And yet he also seemed "terribly simple." She though he had never experience true depression, a freedom so enviable she almost resented it. "I've never know despair and I don't think I ever will," he wrote me once. It was as if in seeking out suffering in some of the world's most desperate locales, he made himself immune to the self-consuming varieties of psychic pain. ... He was often sad, of course, but it didn't take much to cheer him up."
Another quote that I liked a lot:
"Among a coward's weapons, cynicism is the nastiest of all."

New comic.
I think my patience for kids is improving slightly. I babysat last night and was determined to be the fun/interesting babysitter. Sarah was surprised to realize that I knew the words to Miss Mary Mack. Ryan was too little to let me know what he thought about me, except for the occasional cry for his mom. Sarah is obviously used to babysitters; she was very manipulative and sneaky. She also had a strong case of selective hearing. Well, I tried. And I'll never see them again because they're moving to Texas.
Today I'm going to skateboard with Jen. Should be interesting.

Ugh...
My comic is the second link that comes up when you google "punk webcomic" because I link to Nothing Nice to Say. Woops. I know this because I can see what people search in google to get to the website. Creepy and stalkerish, I know, but too fun to resist. Last week some kid googled "things to do for commencement" and got my site.
I hope not many people google punk webcomics, cause they'll be mighty disappointed.

New comic, suckas.
I'm reading Mountains Beyond Mountains right now. It's super good. Go Haiti!
Italy's in the finals! I can't wait for Sundayfunday.
I have such mixed feelings about working at farmers markets it's not even funny. One minute I'm arguing with a vendor, the next I'm playing with little kids and helping a farmer put up his tent. It's crazy how a couple of mean people can ruin your mood (...at least for an hour or so, I don't stay mad for very long).
